Adjusted retention period for telemetry data

- Categories : Pro Emonio

What telemetry data does the Emonio transmit?

The Emonio transmits two types of telemetry data:

  • High-resolution readings
These are transmitted at the interval set on the Emonio, by default every second. This provides a very detailed insight into performance measurement, but also generates a large volume of data.

  • Quarter-hourly readings
Every 15 minutes, the Emonio automatically transmits calculated average or total values. These are particularly suitable for long-term and base load measurements. They are stored on the server indefinitely.

Important: the adjusted storage time applies only to the high-resolution values.

Adjustment of the retention period

The retention period for the high-resolution values has been reduced from 90 to 30 days. This means that a detailed analysis of the last 30 days is still possible.

Why this change?

In short: data storage costs money!

In recent years, and particularly over the past year, the cost of storage space has risen sharply. At the same time, further telemetry data has been added to the Emonio. This combination has increased the costs of our server infrastructure.

Nevertheless, we have kept the price of ProEmonio the same.

However, we were now faced with a choice: raise prices or adjust the data volume. As analyses at one-second resolution are usually carried out either simultaneously with the measurement or immediately afterwards, we opted for the second option.

What does this mean for you?

You can continue to analyse recent measurements in detail (30 days of high-resolution data).
If you need high-resolution data for a longer period, you can save it as a CSV file using the internal storage.
For long-term measurements, simply use the quarter-hourly readings – these are stored permanently.
And all this without any price increase for you as a customer.
